Mermaid Style Abalone with Garlic and Butter

Ingredients

Standard Size Live Abalone

Butter (sliced)

Garlic (minced)

Recommended serving: 2-3 abalone per person

Step 1: Start your Grill

Get your grill smoking hot! This can be done on a

gas grill but a charcoal grill works best. Once your

grill is around 600-700 degrees F it’s ready to go.

Step 2: Prepare the Abalone

Clean the abalone, shell and all, under running

water or with a paper towel to remove any grime.

Do not remove the abalone from the shell.

With the abalone shell side down, place slices of

butter around the inside of the shell, tucking it

under the foot (meat) of the abalone.

Top with more butter, and minced garlic to your liking.

Step 3: Cook the Abalone

Place the Abalone shell side down on the smokin’ hot grill and cook

for about 4 minutes. The butter should start to bubble up, around

the abalone.

Flip the abalone over, now meat side down, and cook for about 2

minutes more, until there are grill marks. Remove from heat.

Step 4: Slice and Enjoy!

Using a metal spoon, scoop the entire abalone away from the shell.

Remove the guts and the mouth by pulling it away from the meat

using a spatula, fork, or knife.

Slice the abalone thinly into about 1/4 inch slices, arrange back in

the shell, and serve.
